Beloved Friends-

Music is in the air! Over the coming weeks we will be re-united with those who come to Trinity week after week and offer the gift of music. In addition to the continued leadership of Chelsie Cree (Director of Music and the Arts) and Grace Mauk (Assistant Director of Music and the Arts), this Sunday we “welcome home” our four beautiful and talented Trinity choir section leaders: Melissa Toth, Kim Buehler, Bradley Baker, and a new member of this team, Tajj Crowder. These four forces of pure joy and talent are with us every week during the program year (Sept-June) offering special music as well as being an integral and dynamic part of our larger Trinity choir.

Then, after a short Sunday hiatus from in-person worship on Sunday September 25 (due to Race for the Cure), the entire Trinity Choir will be back again. Rehearsals have already started, and I can say firsthand we are all in for a musical treat when they are back with us as well.

As a life-long musician I have looked to music to be the foundation, the source, the vehicle that ushers me into the presence of the Divine time and time again. I have shared that since childhood, music has been my constant invitation, solace, and promise, keeping me connected to all that is sacred and holy—even when I have lacked words or understanding.

Here is a beautiful perspective on the gift of music from one of my favorite spiritual writers:

Music is perhaps the most divine of all art forms in that it creates an active, living and moving form that takes us for a while into another world. There is no doubt that music strikes a deep and eternal echo within the human heart. Music resonates in and with us. It is only when we become enraptured in great music we begin to understand how deeply we are reached and nourished by sound.  (John O’Donohue, Eternal Echoes: Celtic Reflections on Our Yearning to Belong)

So come home this Sunday, either through our digital presence with Trinity@Home (9:00am premiere and then any time thereafter) or in person for Sunday service Trinity@316 (Sunday at 10:00am) , as our sacred soundtrack continues! Music at Trinity is a vibrant, expansive, varied palette of genres embracing the best of what music is and can be while creating a pathway into a universal language connecting and inspiring us to be more together than we can ever be alone.

I dare say we just might be turning the tide and redefining what we use to call “church music” moving closer into a wonderful and more expansive definition that dares to combine it all for the sake of spreading the Good News! Hallelujah!

And may you never forget that you are loved,

Lisa
