Getting Married at Trinity

Congratulations on your engagement! If you are interested in sharing your special day at Trinity, you may begin the inquiry process by noting the important information below. Our life with God is expressed in relationships of commitment and faithfulness, which includes heterosexual as well as same-sex couples. It is the Church’s joy to celebrate these relationships as signs of God’s love, to pray for God’s grace to support couples in their life together, and to join with these couples in our shared witness to the gospel in the world.

Step 1

WORSHIP: If you are not a current member of Trinity, your first step is to pick a Sunday to join us for worship- any Sunday at 10:00 would be a great way for a couple to see the church inside and get a feel for what it would be like to have our priest and our community be a part of planning for your wedding.

Step 2

WEDDING APPLICATION: After you have expereinced worship with our Trinity Community with your partner, contact the office, at trinity@trinitytoledo.org or (419) 243-1231 for the Wedding Application.

MARRIAGE AFTER DIVORCE OR DISSOLUTION: If either person has been divorced or has experienced the legal dissolution of a marriage, the couple must meet with the priest to decide if re-marriage is advisable. If the decision is made to proceed with marriage, the clergy must seek permission from the Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Ohio (if a former spouse is still living.) In order for the priest to ask the Bishop’s consent, at least one of the parties to the proposed marriage must be a member of the Episcopal Church.

PRE-MARITAL COUNSELING & LITURGY PLANNING: Whether you are members of Trinity or just planning to have your wedding with us, our tradition requires that each couple has 3 pre-marital counseling sessions with our priest. These are not therapeutic in nature but are about relationship building. These sessions allow the couple to get to know the priest, to talk about what it means to make the commitment of marriage, and to discuss why you have agreed to take this next step. In addition to spending time in conversation about life as a married couple, the priest will also spend time with the couple planning the service itself. The service will be from the Episcopal Church’s Book of Common Prayer or one of the other approved liturgies of the Church.

REHEARSAL: Ceremony rehearsals are typically held the day before the ceremony and take approximately one hour. Please schedule your rehearsal when you meet with the priest officiating at the ceremony.
