Hello friends!

Today, I am inspired to give you an update about what’s happening in the music and arts space at Trinity, and to reflect on our lovely choir.

#flatjesus is travelling the world! I am so happy that an evening of disappointment in Google/Canva searches lead to a digital rendering of a cartoon style black Jesus with a pride flag went so well. How many places will he travel to by the end of the summer? I’m looking forward to that tally!

Carter Adams is back to play organ again this weekend, joined by Tajj Crowder, our tenor section leader. We are greatly looking forward to them sharing their gifts in our sacred space.

July and August are certainly a combination of rest and preparation for the year ahead in the music and arts department. We enjoy trying to plan September through the end of the year. It’s the perfect time to hire musicians for Christmas! (Yes, we must hire people this early. It’s a big day for musicians and many are in high demand!) And, we will certainly try to have this plan in place before the choir returns in September. That is the goal.

As a choir member, if planned right, the first day of rehearsal in September is always a blast. Reuniting with your friends is always great, and finding many stacks of new music on the table is like seeing a whole Christmas dinner spread of delicious musical gifts just waiting to be discovered. Usually there’s plenty of sight-reading, which is a process where the choir attempts to sing the piece even though they’ve never sung it. For those of you who are not choir members, It’s like a sports enthusiast attempting another sport for the first time. Sure, you have some general ideas on how to go about this new process, but with the right attitude, there’s usually a lot of laughter and joy as you fumble through with your friends. It is a safe place to be joyful in our music space.

The wonderful thing is the choir already has two more parties planned for this summer. The first went so well that J Michael and Father Robert invited us once again into their beautiful home for singing and frivolity. To be around people who want to spend time singing and interacting with each other (literally cheering each other on) is a blessing all on its own. I’m not always sure exactly how it happened, but God has certainly blessed us with each other, and to her fabulous glory, we will continue to cherish each other through the time we have together.

So, this is my update, friends. It’s going well here. And there’s still time to get involved in the music here at Trinity. We’re ALWAYS looking for more people to join our merry band. Also, remember to carry your #flatjesus with you wherever you go. Take pictures and tag Trinity.

Musically yours, Chelsie
