Next Monday, October 4th, is the Feast Day of St. Francis of Assisi.
Francis astounded and inspired the Church by taking the gospel literally—not in a narrow fundamentalist sense, but by actually following all that Jesus said and did, joyfully, without limit, and without a sense of self-importance.

Born in the 12th cent. in Assisi, he is now the patron saint of Italy, animals, archaeologists, merchants, metal workers and the environment; a pretty impressive list to be sure!

Today I write to you wearing the hat of one my most meaningful vocations- that of a parent. Kim and I are celebrating Taylor’s 23rd birthday; the gift she is in our lives and in the world. This year brings a bittersweet moment as it is the first of no doubt many years ahead when we are not able to be together for her celebration. As a young adult in the world, she is finding her beautiful way staying both connected to us while also living into a glorious and necessary independence far from home. Some of you have already had the experience of letting go while also still caring for the ties that bind. Others have small children …

Music is in the air! Over the coming weeks we will be re-united with those who come to Trinity week after week and offer the gift of music. In addition to the continued leadership of Chelsie Cree (Director of Music and the Arts) and Grace Mauk (Assistant Director of Music and the Arts), this Sunday we “welcome home” our four beautiful and talented Trinity choir section leaders: Melissa Toth, Kim Buehler, Bradley Baker, and a new member of this team, Tajj Crowder. These four forces of pure joy and talent …

Beloved Friends-
It is wonderful to be back among you after a time of deep rest and renewal. Thank you to all who worked so hard over the past 4 weeks to keep so many plates spinning- it truly does take a village to feed the hearts and souls of our community and I am so very grateful. During my absence we were reminded that no one person is central in the work of the people; we experienced different voices and leaders and expressions of the holy in all her splendor.
