By Jolene Miller, Trinity Member & 2022 Convention Delegate
On November 18 and 19, the Episcopal Diocese of Ohio held its Annual Convention in Cleveland. If you are new to Trinity, you may be unfamiliar with our diocese: we are 80 parishes spread across northern Ohio, one of 108 dioceses and three mission areas in 22 nations or territories. Every year, diocesan clergy and lay delegates meet at convention to conduct diocesan business. This year, Trinity was represented by Rev. Lisa, Hugh Grefe, Leah Reed, and me. 2022 was our first convention in person since the pandemic began, and it was good to be together with our siblings in Christ again. …read it all

Do not Be Afraid
Beloved Friends-
We are now moving into the second week of this short and rich season of Advent. Last week we gathered, and I extended the invitation for us to sink into the counter-cultural aspect offered to us as a community to engage in a time of waiting. Not as a passive, unimaginative time, but rather into an intentional time to seek out the quiet, the sometimes-unnoticed holiness of taking time to breathe and sit still.
This year we are exploring a new liturgical resource for us: A Sanctified Art. This group of young, talented liturgists …
Calling All Bakers
December 11th: Calling all bakers! We would love your help with our December 15th Toledo Streets Newspaper lunches. Would you consider bringing 1 dozen of your perfectly concocted creations to church with you on Sunday, December 11th? We hope to have a beautiful variety of your sweet treats for our vendors when we gather to make lunches on Thursday, December 15th. And we would love to have you help with that too!
#AdventWord
Deepen your experience of Advent by participating in a collaborative online Advent calendar, combining reflections, prayer, and images. A single word from the Sunday Lectionary readings has been chosen for each day of the season of Advent. A daily meditation (in English and Spanish) and visual image inspired by this word is shared via email, with an invitation to share your personal reflections and photos via social media. These images are shared …
Greening of the Church

Our pre-lit trees, wreaths, garlands and other decor are staged on the first floor awaiting many hands to help adorn our sacred space for Christmas. We have big jobs and little jobs to fit everyone’s capabilities.
Please join us for a wonderful time of fellowship as we prepare our hearts and minds for the birth of the Christ Child!
There’s Room for Every Story
Beloved Friends-
This Sunday we turn the page in our church calendar and begin the season of Advent. These are the four weeks we set aside every year to prepare our hearts to once again hear the story of how love came to dwell among us through the birth of Jesus on that cold dark night in an out of the way place to two scared and almost forgotten would-be parents. It is a story I not only never tire of hearing, but as I grow older, anticipate hearing as a necessary balm for my soul. It is a story passed down from generation to generation infused with the hope-filled expectation and imagination of a new world, a new way, a new reality.
And this year, …
Tormod Tvete Vik – Chelsie Cree
Tormod Tvete Vik: Bringing a modern harmonic language to classic text
Tormod Tvete Vik is a Norwegian composer. A consummate musician, he started his musical pursuit at the bright age of 6, studying violin, and continuing with music composition, arranging, musicology, pedagogy and conducting. He worked professionally as a violinist in his own quartet and string orchestra before, as he states in his bio, “dedicating his career to creating music instead.” With his extensive, impressive resume and catalogue of works, the world seems to be glad he did… and so are we.
Vik’s “Come Unto Me” was commissioned by Mark Pope for the University of Park United Methodist Church in Dallas, Texas. Written for SATB and piano… Read More

There Are Angels Hovering Round …
Beloved Friends,
This week has been a wonderful reminder of not only what it means to be a part of a growing community of faith in Toledo, but also a reminder of how important our connection is to the wider Episcopal Church. I began the week at a 2-day meeting of our Midwest collection of Episcopal Dioceses, Province V, bringing together all of us who are a part of the Network to Dismantle Racism. We had time for deep conservations …
Giving and Receiving
Beloved friends,
During the last 4 weeks of October this year we are leaning into a time to reflect of what it means to be a part of Trinity; a progressive, inclusive, creative community of faith. One of the responses of that time of reflection will be to respond to the call to make a financial pledge for 2023.
Each week we will hear …

Feast Day of St. Francis of Assisi
Beloved Friends-
Next Monday, October 4th, is the Feast Day of St. Francis of Assisi.
Francis astounded and inspired the Church by taking the gospel literally—not in a narrow fundamentalist sense, but by actually following all that Jesus said and did, joyfully, without limit, and without a sense of self-importance.
Born in the 12th cent. in Assisi, he is now the patron saint of Italy, animals, archaeologists, merchants, metal workers and the environment; a pretty impressive list to be sure!
St. Francis considered all of creation to be a reflection of the Divine. He called every living creature his “brothers” and “sisters,” …

God Grant Us Many Years
Beloved Friends,
Today I write to you wearing the hat of one my most meaningful vocations- that of a parent. Kim and I are celebrating Taylor’s 23rd birthday; the gift she is in our lives and in the world. This year brings a bittersweet moment as it is the first of no doubt many years ahead when we are not able to be together for her celebration. As a young adult in the world, she is finding her beautiful way staying both connected to us while also living into a glorious and necessary independence far from home. Some of you have already had the experience of letting go while also still caring for the ties that bind. Others have small children …
How Can We Keep From Singing?
Beloved Friends-
Music is in the air! Over the coming weeks we will be re-united with those who come to Trinity week after week and offer the gift of music. In addition to the continued leadership of Chelsie Cree (Director of Music and the Arts) and Grace Mauk (Assistant Director of Music and the Arts), this Sunday we “welcome home” our four beautiful and talented Trinity choir section leaders: Melissa Toth, Kim Buehler, Bradley Baker, and a new member of this team, Tajj Crowder. These four forces of pure joy and talent …
