“And, behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the LORD; but the LORD was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the LORD was not in the earthquake: 12And after the earthquake a fire; but the LORD was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice. 13And it was so, when Elijah heard it, “  First Kings  19:11-12  KJV

Where do you hear the voice of God?  I admit that in my everyday existence that God is not the primary focus of my mind.  I have always felt that kind of experience was reserved for monastic individuals.  I can’t speak for others but my life is busy, often frustrating, obligations are demanding, the media in many forms bombards me with unending stories that are disappointing if not outright horrifying and although out of my personal control they tend to bring me down.  There are many days when I feel that life has become an amalgam of wind, earthquake and fire.

For me, Trinity is the place where I may retreat to repair my mind to face another week.  It is a sacred space that invites me to be still, listen and maybe hear “the still small voice”.  That voice may come in the form of fellowship with others, it may come through a prayer, it may be found in music, maybe it is an outreach project, it could be in the form of a spoken word or it can be as simple as lighting a candle and asking God for his help.

Trinity is a sacred space that I have been allowed to occupy for a portion of my life’s journey.
