Good day, my friends!

I write you today to invite you to join Trinity’s Ukulele Choir.

You may be asking, Ukulele choir? Is that even a thing? Do I need to know how to play already? I thought choirs were just for singing. These are all great questions. Let me give you some background on this group.

Trinity’s Ukulele Choir was born out of desire to inspire community during the pandemic. It was December 2020, a difficult time in all our lives. I had recently taken on the role of choir director here at Trinity and felt the absence of my musical community greatly. With one of Trinity’s missions being music ministry, I wanted to find a way to spread the joy of music and get different kinds of musicians together in a room.

Sometimes, when you think of church music, you mainly think choir, or organ. And if you can’t sing, or simply don’t like to, and you can’t or don’t want to play piano, sometimes it can feel like there is no place for you to express your musicality. So, I wanted to reach more people; more musicians who wanted to learn something new, or perhaps shepherd others into the joy of playing a musical instrument.

At the time, the ukulele was popular as well in pop culture, making it accessible in both price (as far as instruments are concerned) and availability. It is a relatively small instrument, with four different sizes for sound preference, so it could be played by children through adults. And while music was not done *easily* on zoom, it could be done with some creativity. So, we set some dates for our first trial run, and off we sent the first invitation to ukulele choir.

We had great response- the first group had 30 people in our Zoom room. By the time people tried it out and figured out if this was a new hobby they would like to keep, we leveled out around 15. So, each year since our first, we make sure to hold at least one session, about 6 weeks, of ukulele choir.

You don’t need to come in knowing how to play- we will teach you. And, you’ll meet cool people too.

So come on out! Give it a try! Sign up here using this link!

Happy strumming!!
