Dear friends,
Last week I preached on the words of Zechariah and Jesus, asking my fellow prisoners of hope to take up Jesus’ easy and light yoke and burden together, and move forward in becoming Prisoners of Prophetic Hope. If all of this sounds unfamiliar, and you could not be at church on Sunday, you can find the service linked right here. To start this work, the participation in public grief is a key first step, and it is in that act I offer a few opportunities to own our collective grief.
- From now until 7/19 we are collecting letters to both Ohio senators encouraging them to support HR 1689, a bipartisan resolution to secure temporary protective status of our Haitan siblings in Springfield, Ohio.
- 7/19 after church the Trinity Response Team is having a meeting, open to all, with local journalist/activist Sean Nestor. This is about Flock Cameras and the danger they present, also preparing for an upcoming protest.
- 7/22, we will be meeting at Trinity at 8am and driving out to the Central Corrections Facility of Northwest Ohio (CCNO) Board Meeting from 9-11 to protest their status as an ICE detention center.
- 7/29 at 7pm is our first Vigil to End Gun Violence to be held in our sanctuary. After the Old West End Festival shooting, we wanted to be incredibly intentional about not having a one-off event around the past and ongoing violence that effects our community.
Participating in these events, even just one of them, is a step forward in becoming a Prisoner of Prophetic Hope. This hope that we cling to knowing that the world will not always be this way, helps us speak the prophet’s language of grief and hope. My friends, it is such an honor to walk this path with you. I hope to see you there.
Grace and peace.
George
